Greetings! My name is Roxanne and I am a Board Certified Trauma Specialist through the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists, and a fully Certified EMDR Therapist through the EMDR International Association. I specialize in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety and Depression. I am trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, and have experience in conducting debriefings with local emergency responders.
Trauma includes such events as car accidents, war, sexual molestation, child abuse, natural disasters, domestic violence, workplace accidents and other serious events that threaten our sense of safety in the world. Lesser traumas can be harmful as well, such as divorce, the loss of job, or a very embarrassing moment. Early treatment just after such an event may prevent the development of a more serious diagnostic disorder, so it is important to seek help soon!
Children are particularly susceptible to trauma as they do not have the adult perspective and experience to fully process those events. As a result, they may decide that it is something bad within themselves that caused such a thing to happen and they continue to believe that into their adult years. Untreated, it may be hard for them to reach their full potential.
